Deer Creek is a Southern baptist community church in rural Oklahoma just North of Prague and just South of Stroud.

We live in a lost and dying world which continues to pursue its failing strategies for meaning and fulfillment in life. While people often look good on the outside, their lives are often more accurately characterized by self indulgence, guilt, lust, confusion and despair. Seeking this own remedies, man continues his downward spiral toward eternal separation from God.

Man's only hope is the person of Jesus Christ. For men to turn to Christ, they must be told about Him and see His reality displayed in the lives of His followers. As the body of Christ, the Church is the visible earthly representation of who He is. Deer Creek Baptist Church has the two fold purpose of leading people to Christ and maturing them in the faith.

Our expression of this purpose is:

To become a church that manifests the love of the living Christ, by equipping our members to live lifestyles of Spiritual Integrity which are biblically accurate, personally pure, family centered, evangelistically bold, socially responsible. Further, by equipping our members to serve. Unleashing them with confidence into our community and world, putting others first in service to Christ.

Outside the Camp

Mike Haines

Hebrews 13:12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. 13 Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. 14 For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. 15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. 16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

When Christ was offered, it was a shameful act. We look at the glory and grandeur of the sacrifice of Christ, but we do so in retrospective. If we were there, if we had watched it play out, if we had lived our lives in an honor based society, then it would not have been glorious or grand. It would have be appalling. It would have been appalling because he was brought so low, shamed so completely and dishonored. And now, in full view of the benefits of his sacrifice, we are called to the same.

Luke 9:23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

Being humbled as a servant is a major aspect of the life of the Christian. Romans 12 tells us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. We are told to consider others as higher than ourselves. We are called to be sacrificed outside the camp.
