Deer Creek Baptist Church
Celebrating 100 Years In Service To The Lord
On January 27, 2002 Deer Creek Baptist Church celebrated its 100-year anniversary. In 1902, while Oklahoma was still a territory, the first service of Deer Creek Missionary Baptist Church was held. The new Church received its constitution from the State of Oklahoma in 1907 while under the pastorate of D. Whitson. Deer Creek formed a relationship with the Friendship Association, which is now known as the Pottawatomie-Lincoln Baptist Association. The church maintains its close relationship with the Pottawatomie-Lincoln Association to this day.
The first building at Deer Creek Baptist Church had only one 30'-by-40' room with each corner designated for Bible classes. The congregation was warmed by a potbelly stove and kerosene lanterns provided light as the scriptures were read. The Home Mission Board records report a 1905 building program with a cost of $1250.00. However, it wasn't until years later that the two out-houses serving as the rest rooms were replaced. In June of that same year Deer Creek began its Sunday school program. The regular pastor preached only once a month, receiving a salary of $100.00 per year. Membership stood at 85, 35 of the members were men.

The years from 1942 through 1970, held continued growth for the church. During those years the church was blessed with many things, including electricity and modern plumbing.

In 1972 a saintly couple, George and Bessie Reagin gave, as a Christmas gift, the deed for the land south of the church.
Now standing on that land is a brick parsonage that was dedicated on May 19, 1974.
The date was given greater meaning as George Reagin went home to be with the Lord on the same day.
God's vision for the work of Deer Creek Baptist Church continues to grow. A new sanctuary was dedicated on July 11, 1976, with baptistry facilities. Local ponds and lakes had been the gathering place for baptismal services until the construction of the new sanctuary. A more recent addition to Deer Creek began on Thanksgiving Day, 1997, when the men of the church began pouring a concrete foundation for a new gymnasium building. The dedication service was held December 2, 1998.
Most recently, a new facility for classrooms was built and can be seen below. We hope to use it to further our ministry and to do God's will here in the Central Oklahoma communities of Davenport, Prague, Stroud, Paden and Sparks.
Won't you come join us?

God has richly blessed Deer Creek Baptist Church and has given it a great responsibility to carry forward the Good News. Therefore, the church dedicates 21 percent of the total tithes and offerings to missions. These missions include the Pott-Lincoln Baptist Association, Southern Baptist Convention and World Relief programs. Deer Creek Baptist Church has been exceedingly blessed with godly pastors, deacons and members. It is through the belief in the power of the Holy Spirit, that we foresee and expect a wonderful future. We thank our Heavenly Father for these past 100 years and look forward with great anticipation to the next 100 years of service to our Lord.
